Our party (including over seas guests) started in the large bar up the stairs for a few drinks, the man behind the bar was very helpful as to what whiskies to try when and really listened to our own particular tastes. We then continued down to the restaurant where i tried the smoke steak. by far easily the best steak i have had in a restaurant. rich in flavor and the meat was very soft ( i didn’t even need to use a steak knife to cut) once again a very nice wine was recommend on request and went perfectly with our meals. all up great food and the best service around!
“Delicious food, best steak ever”
Nice restaurant, cosy nooks, EXCELLENT food (the smoked steak, in particular, is incredible) and a REALLY good selection of whisky. Over 200 single malts, including a number of select-cask limited releases. If you’re dining in the restaurant, ask for the whisky menu. The haggis was also good — a tasty appetiser. If I was local, I’d be a regular.
I found this gem on my only night in Dunedin. You’ve got to seek out a whisky bar when you’re there right?? First impressions were very positive and nothing about my time in this establishment dampened that initial “wow”. The beautiful building and plush interior add to the dining/drinking experience, but it’s Patrick and his wonderful team who make this place truly special. You deserve all of the hype you get guys. Thanks for making my night in Dunedin so memorable. 5 stars all the way!!

This place is great for a wee tipple after dinner. So many whiskies to choose from. If the barman’s not busy you’ll get a great education on whiskey origin and distillation methods. Beers and vino available too!
“Great food and great service”

We enjoyed good food cooked and presented really well that reflected both local produce and the Scotish heritage that the restaurant theme draws on. Service was great too, with the waiters advicing on wine pairings and allowing us to taste wine prior to make a selection. Very highly recommended.
“Superb food and service in an attractive 19th century city house.”

Excellent locally sourced food and the wine selection was very good. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I had the salmon gravlax for starter and the venison for the main course. My friends tried the other dishes including the haggis starter and pork and lamb main courses. The desserts were very good too.
